Joshua J. Reynolds, 35, of 1639 Morningside Drive in Iowa City, died Friday, February 2, 2007
of injuries sustained in a plane crash near Grinnell, Iowa.

The family request that memorials be directed to a fund that will benefit the Blane Anderson family children.

Josh was born November 26, 1971 in Dubuque, the son of James & JoAnn ( Mormann) Reynolds.
Growing up in Dubuque, Josh graduated from Dubuque Wahlert High School in 1990. He attended the University of Iowa and earned a BA degree in Biological Sciences with a minor emphasis in religion in 1995. Before being employed by the University of Iowa Department of Psychology as Information Technology Manager, he was a programmer at McLeod USA in Cedar Rapids, worked with computer imaging at the University of Iowa Soll Lab, was a Manufacturing Technologist for the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and was a student employee for the University of Iowa Biology Department.

In his free time Josh enjoyed playing Ultimate Frisbee with friends on the neighborhood Longfellow School soccer field. He had a passion for trying new activities, among his favorites were computer games, attending live music venues, reading, airplanes, fishing and spending time with friends during weekly game nights. He would spend hours losing himself in flight simulator games with his brother John and close friends. He couldn’t wait to try out new technology gadgets and he was always the person to go to for help of any kind. Everyone knew Josh for having a smile on his face and a dance in his step.

Josh is survived by his loving wife Monica and their pets Tommy, Io, Juno, Wig and Ficus;
sister, Liz Reynolds of Minneapolis; brother, John Reynolds & his wife Christina and their children, Lilly and Eva, all of Iowa City; brother David Horan & his wife Michelle and their children Maggie and John, all of Edina, Minnesota; his father James Reynolds and his wife Judie of Naples, Florida; brother in law Bruce Dalton and his wife Diane and their children Maggie, Isabelle and Josie, all of Cedar Rapids; his father & mother in law, Ed & Sandra Dalton of Burlington, Iowa; numerous close aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joann.

On-line condolences may be directed to www.lensingfuneral.com

My sincere condolences to Monica and all of Josh's family. I was a fellow high school classmate and co-worker at the movie theater. I also knew Liz through Key Club. I was so sorry to hear of your loss.

As a fellow flying enthusiast, I can only imagine the joy Josh must have felt partaking in that cross-country trip -- what a beautiful way to see our country.

My deepest sympathies,
Jason

Josh was always so much fun to be around. I will never forget how Mike, John, and Josh danced the night away at my brother Scott's wedding. I have never seen Mike dance like that since then and probably never will. I don't know what else to say, except that we send our love to all of Josh's friends and family.

Seeing John and Liz brought back so many memories of being at their home with their parents, watching them and Josh grow up. So many funny stories and good times were shared. The Reynolds children have become such wonderful adults. David, it was so wonderful to meet you and share some memories. And the service reminded us of Josh's energy, joyful smile, love of life and music, and deep loyalties to family and friends. Monica--Josh's love will always be with you and the special memories will bring you peace. John, Liz and Dave--Josh loved you all so much and will be a spirit in your life reminding you to enjoy Life. And Jim-may your memories of your beautiful son and prayers bring you peace. Our love to you all and remember to dance some each day to celebrate Josh's life.

I took a black and white photo of Josh when he was six and attached it to these John Lennon song Lyrics and entered it in a contest and I won a prize. The real prize was knowing Josh and being part of the Reynold's family. Thank you all for letting me in.

To Josh & JoAnn

Close your eyes,
Have no fear,
The monsters gone,
He's on the run and your Mommy's here,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,

Before you go to sleep,
Say a little prayer,
Every day in every way,
It's getting better and better,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,

Out on the ocean sailing away,
I can hardly wait,
To see you to come of age,
But I guess we'll both,
Just have to be patient,
Yes it's a long way to go,
But in the meantime,

Before you cross the street,
Take my hand,
Life is just what happens to you,
While your busy making other plans,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful....JOSH

I truly regret that I was not able to attend Josh's service. I run an in-home child care, and unfortunately could not be absent from that. I want to let all of his nuclear family, Monica, and all of his friends that Josh was in my thoughts and prayers often everyday since I hear from my husband Brian of his death. I did not know Josh well or for a long time, but I do know that I learned quickly of his zest for life and his constant smile and laughter. I attended his wedding reception and have very happy memories of his spirit and enjoyment of his wife, family, and friends. He will be missed by many and never forgotten by anyone who knew him, even as an acquaintance. I am sure that his short time here was filled with great times. Please remember these when you are in pain over your loss of him. I do think that he would not want you to hurt, but to celebrate his life, as hard as I know that is and will be in the future. Again, I am very sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Please contact Brian or me if you need anything - large or small - even just an ear on the phone. Please take care of yourselves and hold on to each other for strength. If you need to contact us, we can be reached at [email protected]

My condolences to you on your loss. Josh brought a ray of my hometown Black and Gold to Iowa City. I'll miss his e-mails that asked some work-related question but inevitably ended with What do you think about ... and then mentioned some Steelers news. I'll miss the opportunity to get to know Josh better through our shared passion. And we'll all miss him down at the Vine next season.

I knew Josh in the Biology department, where he was part of the smartest and funniest group of people I've ever known.

He made the world a smarter, happier place and the rest of us, when our heartbreaks allow, will have to be extra-smart and extra-funny to make up for his loss.

Best wishes to Josh's family and friends.

Foremost, I wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to the Reynolds Family. I can still remember getting the Asbury boys together for a “friendly” game of tackle football at the Oxus Grotto, lighting bottle rockets off at the early morning hours or seeing what kind of creatures we can catch in the creek behind lower Summer Drive. Thanks for the memories, Josh.

Hi,
I went to high school with Josh's brother, John, and I felt compelled to write a note when I saw the obituary in the TH. John, I am so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine what you are going through; that it would seem like someone took part of your heart away. I have 8 brothers and sisters and can't imagine life without any one of them. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

We all have so many fond memories of Josh......catching crawdads down at the creek, sleigh riding down our back hill and seeing who was lucky enough to make it over the creek without getting wet, and cleaning for JoAnn one day and finding a full peanut butter & jelly sandwich with only one bite missing tucked neatly into Josh's pillowcase. He was such a fun kid!
We will miss him beyond words......

To the Reynolds...

I'm not sure what I would have turned out like without the odd, beautiful, crazy, countless beatings with swords, cow weed grenades, BB gun wars, BMX bikes, nerf footballs chewed by Taffy, running sleds off cliffs and manhole pipes, burning spider nests with hair spray (IN THE GARAGE) and that strange brown van. We did almost everything as kids together--and made suburbia cool.
Josh, you will be missed and never forgotten.

To Jim and John and Liz, especially, but to everyone else who loved Josh:

Just a note to tell you how sorry we were to hear of the death of Josh. Our son Chris died unexpectedly last summer of a heart attack, and, believe me, we have some idea of what you are going through. Too young, too soon, too sudden, an unfinished life . . . there is no sense to it all. But the love and support of our friends held us upright many times when we felt like just falling down. May you, too, be comforted and sustained during this awful time by the love of your many friends. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. You WILL survive this great loss. Love from Dubuque. Jim and Karla Braig
PS Our daughters Jenny and Amy add their tears to yours as you mourn the loss of your sweet son and brother.

My favorite memory with Josh was a long car ride up north on one of the Firewood tours. Rob Ryan and I rode while Josh drove. I played annoying music, we laughed and had lots of fun. I met his sister Liz that same trip. I wasn't at all surprised that she was just as dynamic and fun as Josh. He will be missed!
